Seems to me that this episode isn't very popular ; can't imagine why what with the dizzying camera work. Terrible. One good aspect of this ep is the explanation of 'why' Adm. Perry used such deplorable diplomatic tactics. Apparently it would be the USA or Russia, England, or the Dutch - not just the USA. But honestly, it is really embarrassing to think that this was the state of the art in foreign relations in the 1850's. Equally as perplexing is how little they've changed. When i was stationed at Sasebo , Kyushu Island, in 1984-87, the local population ( and the rest of the country ) was as cold as fresh fish. Unless you have a conversational skill in the language, 'fergedaboudit' ! Yes, i know we're not a whole lot better, but even if you do have some capability, you're still likely to get nothing but a cold shoulder. But, don't take my work for it ; see for yourself. I like the narrator who does Englebert Kampfert. He sounds like a really soothing version of the guy who voices Klaus on American Dad.
